Still have questions?

  • How is The Other 90 Financial different from other firms?

We are different than other firms for 4 main reasons:

    1. We specialize in retirement and tax planning for Christians age 50+

Just like you wouldn't consult a podiatrist if you needed brain surgery, different needs require different specialties. Retirement planning (the distribution phase) is very different than the wealth building (accumulation) phase. A different set of skills is needed to avoid running out of money in retirement.

    2. A focus on quality, not quantity

I don't want to be the largest planning firm or have the fanciest building in the skyline. I'm focused on serving a small number of great families -- for life. My goal is to have the time and bandwidth to serve you better than any other firm could. This is why I plan to only bring on 30-40 client households instead of hundreds upon hundreds.

    3. We embrace our faith and values

Unlike many places today, we don't want to hide our faith and values. Here, we embrace our faith. I know that your faith permeates all areas of your life, including your wealth. Instead of leaving your faith out of our conversations, I hope that we can spur one another on in good works as we seek to hear "well done, good and faithful servant" from our creator one day.

    4. I'm a fee-only fiduciary & I charge a Flat Fee

I don't accept commissions or kickbacks. I've  chosen to mitigate these conflicts of interest, making my fees transparent and simple. This is so you, the client, can 1) know exactly what you pay and 2) feel confident that what I recommend is in your best interest, not the thing that pays me the biggest commission.

I also charge a "Flat Fee", meaning my fee is not arbitrarily derived from the value of your portfolio, but instead based on the service I provide -- which happens to be excellent and superior to our competitors. My belief is that your wealth should compound with the stock market, but not your expenses (our compensation). This is the reason I operate with a Flat Fee. To learn more about "Flat Fees" and how they could benefit you, click here to visit our flat fee page.

Comparing different financial advisors is very difficult. This is why we offer our complimentary Free Retirement Assessment process. This allows you to see exactly how we'll work together and the ways we can add value before you pay us a single penny of your hard-earned money.

If you think there may be a potential fit, the next step is to schedule your complimentary 20-minute phone call.

  • Do you only work with Christians?

    No, absolutely not!

While my focus and expertise is in serving those who share my Christian beliefs, I work with people from all walks of life.

Many non-Christians also resonate with my values/beliefs as well as my technical and evidence-based approach to financial planning and investment management.

As long as you're comfortable with our investment philosophy and process, I'm more than happy to assist you with your financial needs. I just need to know that you're comfortable with the way I do business and respect that my company is proudly and distinctively faith-forward.

If you'd like to take the next step and work with a Christian financial planner, schedule your complimentary 20-minute call to see if our expertise matches your needs.

  • How do you get paid?

As a fee-only (a.k.a. commission-free) retirement and tax planning firm, I charge a simple and transparent flat fee of $9,500 per year. (Read how flat fees may actually save you thousands)

This means I don't get paid by:

    • Commissions from products sales
    • No kickbacks from fund companies (on the back-end)
    • An arbitrary % of your assets/net worth

I get paid by you, directly and transparently. And paying my fees only makes sense if the value I provide is worth more than the fee I charge

The time, effort, and stress avoided + the potential tax savings, lower fees, better outcomes, and better investment portfolios are just a few examples of what can make paying my fees a great value for my clients.

If someone is paying 1.5% per year on their $1,000,000 portfolio, that would be $15,000 per year.

With the same $1,000,000 portfolio, but instead charging a $9,500/yr flat fee + a quarter of a percent expense ratio (cost of the funds/ETFs), their all-in fee would only be $12,000/yr. That's a savings of $3,000 in fees per year in this example! (and believe me, I've seen and regularly see much worse!)

If you think you're paying too much for the service you receive, the next step is to schedule a complimentary 20-minute call to see if our expertise meets your needs.

  • Do you work with clients in across the United States?

Yes, I work with clients locally and virtually across the country.

Thanks to technology, geography is no longer a barrier to finding the right advisor for your needs.

  • Why do you charge a "flat fee" instead of a % of my assets?

Imagine asking your doctor how much you owed for their services and having them respond:

"That depends, how much money do you have?"

That would feel closer to a shakedown than a fair price based on the service provided.

Your investable assets are generally not a good proxy of the complexity of you financial situation, thus it doesn't make sense to base my pricing on this number.

I know from experience that managing an $800,000 portfolio does not cost more than managing a $1,000,000 portfolio. The same goes for a $1,500,000 portfolio and a $3,000,000 portfolio.

Our compensation as advisors should not be arbitrarily determined by the amount of money you have in your portfolio. So, I ask the question... why, then,  should clients pay completely different amounts for the same service? I don't think they should.

I believe charging a flat fee is ultimately a better deal for my clients.

Under a flat fee model,  it's the same fee for the same service. Simple and fair to both clients and myself.

Plus, would you rather let compound interest grow your wealth, or grow my fee?

A flat fee (increased for inflation) is meant to charge a fair price for the service provided -- not to hitch my wagon to the trailer of your wealth and charge you the highest amount possible.

A flat fee is what I would personally want if I were looking for an advisor or was referring my grandma to an advisor. With the proper understanding, I think many consumers would also want this once they understood the advantages and conflicts of interests it mitigates.

If you're interested in working with a flat-fee advisor, the next step is to schedule a complimentary 20-minute call to see if our expertise matches your needs.
